Chewing the fat about the best thing to come out of the States since, well, the original Mustang.......

Benny C car is now at silverlake

Benny's mustang is now up for salvage on ebay at 14K - i called silverlake this morning to see if they were interested in breaking it up. But they seem to belive someone is going to pay 14k and get it back on the road as it has 10ks worth of extras

Blimey, what a rip off. That's a 5 year old GT with a few bits bolted on, for which you never recover the cost anyway. It's only worth 18k up and running to my mind.

It's certainly very strong money. Such a shame, as it was a thoroughly sorted GT :(

Working out figures at the moment (mainly insurance ones)

But to build an identical GT clone would cost ~29-32K

But at the moment i'm reckoning all in - this would cost me around 25-28K to put back on the road.

And i haven't had any luck in finding anything anywhere near as good as this was (before i crashed it)

-just weighing up the options at the mo....

But, it will be worth less than what you have spent to get it back on the road! having cat D recorded on the log book drops the value significantly add that to it being a 5yr old car with 30k on the clock the value comes down more.

I'd definately take a look into what Geoff said on 'tother site.......checkout how easy (or not) it'd be to insure it.

I think based on the comments on the other side it's mental money

can't really see how cat d can be got around to justify the rebuild.......unless you store it in your shed for 50 years, there's petrol still around and we all write of our cars too...

it 's good but it ain't old number 8...

Been looking through a whole load of options -

TT, yep, right about insurance, that's the thing that might kill it (talking to the insurers though, their comment was - 'as long as it's passed an MOT it's fine?' - i thought was a little odd? - any insurer-type people care to comment?)

Cati - fair one again, the 'Stang community is FAR too small for this kind of car to EVER be forgotten - if i ever wanted to sell it....but, circumstances change very quickly sometimes, and one day i might have to..

About the CAT D write off, had a look at the definition - 'economically repairable - but other factors, such as part availability justify it being written off' - which to me does seem to say it WAS possible, i'm assuming parts killed it. Almost seems like a cop-out to me....

...but, it's only ideas at the moment - even as crazy / hair-brained as they may be.

If you want to spend high £20 - £30,000 on a supercharged GT get a Saleen or Roush instead that doesn't have the accident history.

there looking at new panels from the states etc, speak to the Boyz, you will be amazed at what they can do

and they may make some changes that will make it a one off which means the cat d dont matter when it comes to price

ive seen corvettes that looked like the whole body needed to be thrown away, and then its a show winner

so depends what your after

if your after a cheap fix, there many out there, if your after just making it look normal, well again theres many that could straighten the panels

if you want to spend the same money and have a car that looks the dogs and drives the dogs

even the bumpers can be repaired

ring the boyz

I obviously missed something when I was on holiday. What's happened to Benny's old car?

You probably remember it was sold......and then the new owner had a bit of an off, to say the least. So he's now looking at the possibility of buying it back.
